Lake Mead is part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and with 1.5 million acres in the 3,000 square miles, it is twice the size of Rhode Island and offers a wealth of things to do and places to go year-round. The lake occupies about 13% of the total area of the park, and caters to boaters, swimmers, sunbathers, and fishermen. It is just south of Las Vegas. |

It is about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, and is easily seen from the Las Vegas Strip. Red Rock Canyon was designated as Nevada's first National Conservation Area. Red Rock Canyon is located 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Charleston Boulevard/State Route 159. The area is visited by more than two million people each year. It includs a 13-mile scenic drive, miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, picnic areas, nature observing and visitor center with indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a book store. |
